Have you ever wondered why we require registration for some programs but not others? Ever wanted to register but didn't know how? Have you ever tried to register and found out you were on the wait list or that the wait list was already full? Well, here are the answers to those questions and more.
Why do some of your programs require registration?
We have three programs that require registration: Minecraft Club, Sewing 101, and Watercolor Workshop.
Minecraft Club is limited by the number of available laptops (15) and chairs (30), so we can accommodate 30 children.
Sewing 101 uses the five machines the library owns. The projects are specifically chosen for beginning sewers to complete in a half-hour span after the half-hour of instruction time, which enables ten participants to attend.
Watercolor Workshop has space for twelve participants due to the instruction-heavy nature of the class. Watercolor is the hardest paint to work with; there is a lot of one-on-one interaction with the instructor.
All other programs the library currently offers are designed for people to walk in and do not require registration.
How do I register for a program?
You can register by calling the library at 502-624-1232 or in person. We do not accept online registration requests at this time because we cannot take personal information using the online forms.
What do I need to register?
We will take your name and a good contact number. We need both in order to reach you to confirm attendance or to notify you if a program has been canceled, postponed, or moved.
When does registration open for a program? When does it close?
Registration opens the day after a program. It closes whenever the wait list is full or the day/time of the program, whichever comes first.
Why am I on the wait list? Why is the wait list full?
Call or visit the library the day registration begins. There is a much better chance of you getting onto the program list instead of the wait list the sooner you contact us. Our registration-required programs are very popular: both Sewing 101 and Watercolor Workshop are full on a regular basis. Every program has only a ten-person wait list.
Do I have to bring anything to the programs? Do they cost anything?
Just yourself! All of our programs are free. We provide everything you need, including instruction and materials.
Why do the programs have age limits?
We have age limits on many of the programs the library offers. We develop programs around specific age groups for several reasons, including but not limited to peer interaction and age-appropriate activities. We also offer programs for all ages. Our registration-required programs are aimed at specific audiences, either late elementary and middle school (Minecraft Club) or adults and teens (Sewing 101 and Watercolor Workshop).
Do you accept walk-ins for the registration-required programs?
We accept walk-ins as space allows, although this happens very, very rarely. If anyone cancels on us, we will always contact the wait list first.
I keep trying and trying, but I've never managed to get onto the class list. What are you going to do about it?
We ask that you try contacting us earlier to register. We are aware that there is a large amount of interest in these programs so we are looking into different ways to offer them in order to reach more people in the future.
Why do you only offer these programs once a month or once every two months?
These programs require a large amount of preparation. All of our staff are involved with multiple programs (in addition to other responsibilities) and have neither the time nor the resources to focus on offering one program all the time. We have found the current way we offer programs gives the best return in value for our patrons. It also lets our staff have enough time to prepare each program properly.
Do you have any questions that weren't answered above? Then contact the library and we'll be glad to help.
