Inter-library Loans

Did you know that we can do Inter-Library Loans?

If you have an active account with us and you want to order items the library doesn't own, we'll be glad to help. This is a great resource for voracious readers, home schoolers, and people doing research. And for anyone who wants to use the service!

We can get all kinds of things through ILL: books on CD, DVDs, books.... We've even been able to help people get one-of-a-kind resources like a Latin learning kit or a genealogy text.

Making a request is easy - come to the circulation desk and ask for an ILL form.

However, we do have limits on what we are able order. An account can only have 2 ILL requests at one time. We are unable to order items the library already owns in any format, textbooks, new books, and other high-demand items. The librarian will make the final determination on what is ordered. And finally, please be aware that requested items may not be available.

If you do receive an item you ordered, please be courteous and return the item before the listed due date. We depend upon you doing this to keep our borrowing privileges with other libraries intact. If you need a renewal, please let us know a minimum of one week before the listed due date. This gives the lending library a chance to respond to the request. Finally, please leave the borrowing sleeve on the item (it's how we check it in and out).

Have questions? Interested? Then come talk to us today!

Welcome to our MakerSpace!

Our 1200 square foot learning laboratory focuses on hands-on education experience for youth and adults that directly supports both DODEA and STEAM education. Not sure what STEAM is? That’s okay! STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Every single program we host in there in some way relates back to STEAM. The MakerSpace encourages creation and innovation for business and recreational needs.

We offer programs for everyone of all ages. Check out our website (barrlibrary.org) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/barrlibrary/) for all of our program listings (as well as our weekly calendar posts here on the blog!).

Want to know some of what we offer right now? Excellent. Our programs include, but are far from limited to, Tinkering Toddlers, a Watercolor Workshop, Sewing 101, Tinker Time, and My MakerSpace Open Lab.

Want to know some of what we have in there? Well, we have a lot. So much so that we’re actually going to highlight a lot of the individual items here on the blog. But for now, some of what we have are 3-D printers, button machines, Legos, and a small audio-visual studio.

We are back on Instagram!

Okay, we technically never totally went away, but our Instagram hiatus is now over.

We are currently using Instagram primarily for children’s and young adult announcements and information, such as program information, reading recommendations, additions to the collection, etc. Find us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/barrlibrary/ or search Instagram for Barr Memorial Library.

Look for updates weekly.

We are adding an Afternoon Story Hour!

Yep, you read that correctly.

We are adding an afternoon story hour on the first Tuesday of each month from 1pm-2pm, beginning Tuesday, February 5th. Whereas our Tuesday morning story hour is currently geared mostly towards toddlers, this story time will be aimed more towards 3-5 year-olds (though, of course, children of any age are welcome!). We will have a 40-45 minute story time with a craft or other activity for the last 15-20 minutes.

I look forward to seeing you there!

The Adult Winter Reading Challenge Book Bingo is here!

Keep track of the books you've read between January 2-March 30. Turn in your bingo card by March 30 to receive your finishing prize, entered into the weekly drawing, and entered into the grand prize drawing (a tote of autographed books).
You can win the challenge in two ways. You can complete a traditional bingo (a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line) or go for a complete blackout of the card. If you choose to go for a blackout, you'll get an additional prize.
Each bingo square has a different genre. Some of the squares are memoir, staff suggestion, science fiction, military history, and poetry. These are far from the only ones, so pick up your log at the library today to see all of them.
Participants must be 18 years or older and eligible under AR-215-7.1.
